Here you will find the downloadable catalog of Home Space research reports and fieldwork documentation.
Main research reports
Context Report - This places the study‘s various levels in context – i.e. the micro- to meso- relationship between the city, the study area, the 100 physical/socio-economic surveys and the 19 ethnographic cases – and the meso- to macro- relationship between the city, its surrounding region, the urban areas of Mozambique and other Sub-Saharan African cities. Ethnographic Report (available only as raw text) - This provides an analytical overview of 19 households and their wider relationships selected from the 100 physical/socio-economic, including around half which were case study sites in either the 1990 or 2000 surveys, permitting an in-depth understanding of socio-cultural dynamics and interests. Built Environment Study - This examines approximately 100 physical house and plot surveys across the study area, including 50 which were case study sites in either the 1990 or 2000 surveys, using similar survey techniques – which permits a longitudinal overview of change. Socio-Economic Report - This examines approximately 100 socio-economic household surveys across the study area, including 50 which were case study sites in either the 1990 or 2000 surveys, using similar survey techniques – which permits a longitudinal overview of change. Download the full report here (2,8 mb).
Synthesis Report - This integrates findings from the above studies around a set of key issues highlighted in the Context Report, including 20 detailed Life Stories, which permits an in-depth understanding of these issues. It includes some initial recommendations arising from the study which were discussed at the final presentation workshop in Maputo. Download the full report here (5,2 mb).
Background research data
Five background documents have been produced aimed at providing in-depth insights into the nature of the built environment, the socio-economic reality and the transformation processes recorded over the previous two decades. The reports hence document the physical changes and further attempts to link the socio-economic data to the built environment. Two volumes (Fieldwork Data) gather all the data from the semi-structured interviews and support these with a structured image session and physical surveys of each individual plot and house. The two Fieldwork data are summarized in one Fieldwork Data summary aimed at providing an overview of the data highlighting only selected issues from the total data material.
*) The marked documents contains restricted information and may only be aquired by written request from one of the Home Space partner institutions.
Executive summaries have been produced for all five main research reports and these have further been translated into Portuguese.
